![]() Tripwire is a great read for someone who wishes to get into reading without the flowery language that can often cloud a great narrative. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys action and adventure in novels. The specificality of his writing appears to be exactly what the reader needs to allow themselves to be immersed in Reacher’s world. Child’s knowledge of guns and, in particular, Fighter planes, are so accurate that you would almost expect him to have flown a Fighter jet or have used a few of the guns he describes so well. One of the most impressive elements of this book, is Lee Child’s attention to detail. As a writer myself, I find his use of structure intriguing how he creates tension and suspense with no nonsense language is mesmerizing. This is the first book in the Reacher series I’ve read and it definitely won’t be my last. The pace of both narrative scenes quicken at the same time until reader is found racing to the finish line with Reacher on the lookout. The book alternates between Reacher and Chester’s situation, in order to set the scene for the reader that will eventually overlap these narratives together. Tripwire follows Reacher in the hopes of finding a missing soldier whilst the reader is simultaneously observing Chester Stone’s lifestyle and failing business. Tripwire focuses mostly on Jack Reacher’s army life and what his possible future may look like. After retracing Costello’s movements, Reacher finds himself returning to his army roots, in search for a missing soldier. The book begins in a sunny Key West, when a man called Costello is looking for Reacher. ![]() I love books about books, and I love the inside look (hey this is John Grisham) at writers, manuscripts, first edition books, etc.Tripwire by Lee Child, Paperback, Transworld Publishers, 544 pages, £8.99, Waterstones. “Camino Island” is a fantastic read! I could not put it down. Mercer then…….oh, sorry, you will have to read the book to see what happens. Her company will pay off all her debts and pay her $100,000 for six months work writing her novel on Camino Island….where Mercer’s family owns a cottage and Mercer spent every summer with her Grandmother.Īll she had to do was to “infiltrate” the writing community on Camino Island and get in good with Bay Books owner, Bruce Cable, who the FBI suspects has the Fitzgerald manuscripts. Then, Elaine Shelby came into her life with an offer that Mercer could hardly decline. She desperately wanted to finish her novel (she already had one published, and it was very good), but, she needed to work. Mercer is deep in debt (school loans), and now, without a job, her short term prospects are bleak. Mercer Mann was losing her teaching job at the University of North Carolina due to budget cuts (taxes do pay for stuff and the Republicans in charge had made deep cuts). Upon hearing this, Ahmed fled the country, Denny killed Trey, then sold the manuscripts for a meager one-half million on the black market and then….disappeared. The celebration was short lived as Jerry had cut himself at the scene and the FBI now knew who one of the thieves was and were waiting for him to come home. ![]() Each manuscript will be worth millions, and Mark, Denny, Trey, Jerry, and Ahmed are basking in their new found wealth. Scott Fitzgerald’s original handwritten manuscripts, including “The Great Gatsby”, from the Firestone Library at Princeton University. Together, they planned, and executed, the nearly perfect heist of several of F. Mark, Denny, Trey, Jerry, and Ahmed planned the “perfect” crime.
